When therefore the cross-section shewing a centre pole system with tracks 6' 6" apart and occupying a greater width of the roadway was submitted, the Director of Public Works was induced to make the concession of approving this mode of construction partly by your Company's voluntarily undertaking to concrete the whole 6' 6" as shewn in the cross-section.

As already stated that cross-section has been duly approved under the Ordinance. The Director of Public Works in the matter of your Tramways has made the utmost concessions which he feels justifi- ed in making and I am to state that this Government sees no sufficient reason for allowing your Company to depart in any particular from the form of construction which has been duly approved.
This Government is aware that, where the space between the tracks exceeds 4 feet, your Company is only liable for the maintenance of a strip 18 inches in width alongside the inner rail of
each track,
